Decanter 2025
Our Graham Beck Pinot Noir Rosé Brut 2019 Wins Gold at Decanter World Wine Awards
We are thrilled to announce that our Graham Beck Pinot Noir Rosé Brut 2019 has been awarded Gold at the prestigious 2025 Decanter World Wine Awards, earning an unprecedented 96 points from the world's most influential wine competition. This salmon-pink vintage continues our legacy of creating exceptional Cap Classique that rivals the finest sparkling wines globally.
This recognition comes hot on the heels of our 2018 vintage's remarkable success, which claimed a Trophy at the Cap Classique Challenge, Gold at the Global Sparkling Wine Masters and 93 points from Tim Atkin's authoritative South Africa Report. We’re grateful for the continued recognition, which affirms that our commitment to thoughtful innovation and quality is resonating with those who know fine sparkling wine.
What Makes the Decanter World Wine Awards So Special
The Decanter World Wine Awards, celebrating its 22nd edition, remains the world's largest and most influential wine competition. This year, wines from 57 countries were evaluated by 248 top international experts, including 22 Master Sommeliers and 72 Masters of Wine - the most in the competition's history.
A DWWA medal shows that the wine has been blind-tasted by leading wine experts and judged purely on quality. These awards highlight wines that stand out at every level, from good to exceptional.
As DWWA judge and Master of Wine Tim Marson noted: "Winning a Gold or Platinum award at DWWA can literally change a producer's life." For us, this recognition reinforces our position as South Africa's leading Cap Classique producer.
The Art of Co-Pressing: What Makes Our Pinot Noir Rosé Unique
Our Graham Beck Pinot Noir Rosé Brut represents a landmark achievement in South African winemaking - the first Cap Classique where Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes are co-pressed together as whole bunches in a singular press cycle.
What is co-pressing? Unlike traditional methods where varieties are pressed separately and blended later, co-pressing means pressing two different grape varieties together simultaneously. This technique creates seamless integration from the very beginning, allowing the 87% Pinot Noir and 13% Chardonnay to weave together naturally during extraction.
The whole-bunch pressing method - where grapes are gently pressed - yields only the finest, most delicate free-run juice while preserving the wine's elegant coral hue. This gentle approach reduces harsh tannins and maintains the refined phenolic balance essential for our rosé Cap Classique.
What began as a fortunate twist of fate in our cellar has evolved into masterful intention. Today, we execute this pioneering technique with precision, creating a wine that showcases both Pinot Noir's vibrant berry richness and subtle spice alongside Chardonnay's linear freshness and creamy complexity.
After five years of patient lees ageing, our 2019 vintage presents an explosion of raspberry and blueberry notes complemented by delicate honeysuckle, carried by persistent yet refined mousse.
